Hazelmere Pullet Rearing
OVERVIEW
This is a farm that consists of four brooding houses and eight pullet rearing houses. The brooder houses are for the initial rearing period when heating and other special requirements are needed for the rearing of the baby chicks. The five week old chicks are then moved to the pullet rearing houses where the birds are reared up to the eighteenth week of age. At this stage the point of lay pullets are moved to the Impangele laying farm or sold to outside egg producers. Hazelmere has an annual capacity of 750 000 point of lay pullets.
Impangele Layer Farm
OVERVIEW
This farm comprises of 18 layer houses with a total capacity of 390 000 hens. All of the farm's egg collection is done by inline egg conveyors collecting directly into the egg grading pack station. The Diamond 2000 egg grading machine has a capacity of 32 000 eggs per hour with eight packer options. The farm has a daily egg production of at least 340 000 eggs which gives an annual production capacity of 8.7 million dozen eggs. The entire farming operation's food is supplied from a feed mill situated on the farm with a capacity of 2 000 tons per month. The raw materials are transported by a fleet of three Super Link bulk transport trucks and the mixed feed is transported by tractor and feed cart and bulk truck tankers. These super-links are for hire.
Parks Paddock Layer Farm
OVERVIEW
This is a recently established Family Caged Layer Unit with a hen capacity of 54 000 to Impangele hen. These hens production are transported to Impangele to be graded. The combined annual egg production of the two farms will be an estimated 10 million dozen annually.
Egg Breaking and Pasteurizing
OVERVIEW
This plant uses all the cracked eggs' estimated 4.5% of the total production, and converts them into a pasteurized liquid product which is sold to food processing companies.
Egg Marketing
OVERVIEW
The graded eggs are supplied to Nulaid who is a national player in the egg supply market. Nulaid is part of the recently listed Pioneer Group. The supply agreement is an evergreen agreement for which Grendon pay a Merchandising and Distribution fee, and a percentage of the nett realization in the Kwa-Zulu Natal market.
