Emnambithi - Ladysmith

Location Ladysmith, KwaZulu Natal

Emnambithi-Ladysmith is located on the banks of the Klip River, with the central business district and a large part of the residential areas located within the flood basin of the river. It is on the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains, about 26 km from the Van Reenen pass. It is 230 kilometres north-west of Durban and 365 kilometres south of Johannesburg. Important industries in the area include food processing, textile and tyre production.

In 2007 Emnambithi-Ladysmith had a population of 236,748 (Census 2007) which increased by 11,289 from 2001 (Census Oct 2001) and is expected to reach 250,000 in 2011. There is hence a dire need to house the local community in secure, sturdy and comfortable units which is the current and on-going project of the Emnambithi-Ladysmith Municipality and The Department of Human Settlements.

Mkhombe has been awarded a contract to build a portion of these units in the Ezahkeni E District. Building started late 2010 and the Municipality has already handed over keys to some very pleased members of the community. You can be kept up to date with progress by reviewing the photos above.
